The Shakespeare Festival
The 12th International Shakespeare Festival of School Theatres took place on April, 23−25th 2011 in Moscow. As usual, the festival was devoted to the birthday anniversary of the great English poet and playwright William Shakespeare. Different theatre groups of schoolchildren from Russia, Latvia, Ukraine and Belorussia were invited to participate in this festival. The organizers of the festival were Moscow Institute of Open Education. The students of the 8th− 11th forms of gymnasium 1306 took part in the festival with great success. This year our students showed the play “The Merry Wives of Windsor” by William Shakespeare. The participants performed on the stage of the branch of St. Petersburg Institute of Arts and Information Technology in Mendeleevo. Our students were acting so well that neither the jury nor the spectators remained indifferent to the performance. And, of course, our teachers and the Principal, Elena Boleslavovna Sporysheva also went to Mendeleyevo to support our young actors. The British actor Jonathan Salway, the actor of The State Academic Maly Theatre Alexey Nikolaevich Anokhin and a teacher of the Enghlish language- K. Sogoyan had been teaching our students how to play and work on stage. And none of the efforts were in vain!
As it turned out, our young actors won in the following categories: “The best performance”, “The best costume design” and “The best English”. The results were announced on April, 25th in Moscow Drama Theatre after K.S Stanislavsky. We congratulate our winners and wish them further success!
